Terrence Phearse has a diverse range of work experience in the arts and cultural sector. Terrence is currently serving as the Chief of Staff at The Studio Museum in Harlem, where they provide administrative leadership and helps define the institution's vision and mission. Prior to this role, Terrence worked as an Editor at Large and Editorial Director at MUSÉE MAGAZINE, where they were responsible for expanding the magazine's editorial tone and strategic direction. Terrence also managed a team of writers and oversaw design and layout. Terrence has also served as a David C. Driskell Doctoral Fellow in Philosophy, Aesthetics, and Art Theory at the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts. In addition to their professional roles, Terrence has worked as an Independent Curator and an Artist, with a personal website showcasing their work. Terrence has also held positions as a Manager of Exhibitions & Experience at Fotografiska International, a Project and Programming Curator at Central Saint Martins Museum & Study Collection, an Education Curator at Lethaby Gallery, a Project Curator at Tate, and a Project Curator for Camerawork (1976-1986) at the University Archives and Special Collections Centre. Terrence's experience includes curatorial work, collections management, oral history projects, and research on innovative artworks and artists.
Terrence Phearse is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Philosophy, Aesthetics and Art Theory at the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts. Prior to this, they completed a Master of Arts - MA in Culture, Criticism, and Curatorial Studies at Central Saint Martins, University of The Arts London. Additionally, they hold a Master of Arts - MA in Photography from the University of Westminster. Terrence also earned a Certificate in History of Art from the University of Oxford, and a Bachelor of Science - BS degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology.
