David Kodama Jr.

David Kodama, Jr. has extensive work experience in the insurance industry. David is currently serving as the Chief Industry & Regulatory Officer at The Surplus Line Association of California. In this role, they oversee various departments and utilizes their expertise in surplus lines, actuarial science, and policy analysis to enhance the advisory services of the organization.

Prior to their current position, David was an Assistant Vice President at the American Property Casualty Insurance Association, where they provided research and policy development support to member insurance companies. David specialized in surplus lines insurance and played a key role in implementing the Nonadmitted and Reinsurance Reform Act of 2010.

David has also held various roles at CNA, including Business Operations Director, Actuarial Manager, and Sr. Actuarial Consultant. David managed multiple divisions and business units within the Excess & Surplus Lines Division, and their responsibilities included underwriting, risk assessment, and operations management.

Additionally, David served as an appointed member of the Advisory Board at the Insurance Research Council, where they contributed their expertise in insurance industry matters.

Outside of the insurance industry, David served as an Elected Member of the Board of Education and Chair of the Policy Committee at School District 96 in Riverside, IL.

David Kodama, Jr. began their education at Glen Rock High School from 1982 to 1986. After completing high school, they attended The Pennsylvania State University, where they obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Math/Actuarial Science from 1986 to 1990. In 1990, they pursued further education by enrolling in the Casualty Actuarial Society, where they completed examinations until 1999. Additionally, they completed a course at The Institutes, although the specific years of attendance are not provided.

In terms of additional certifications, David obtained the Associate in Surplus Lines Insurance (ASLI) from The Institutes CPCU Society in June 2023.
