James Barragan is a seasoned journalist with extensive experience in political reporting and government affairs. Currently serving as a Politics Reporter for Texas Tribune since May 2021, Barragan was previously a State Government Reporter for The Dallas Morning News, where coverage focused on immigration, border security, and voting rights. In addition, Barragan held roles at the Austin American-Statesman covering the intersection of business and government, as well as grassroots issues affecting the Latino community. Barragan's career includes experience at the Los Angeles Times and as Editor in Chief for the Daily Bruin, along with internships at notable organizations such as The Huffington Post and the New York Times Student Journalism Institute. As a Nieman Foundation Fellow at Harvard University from August 2023 to May 2024, Barragan is also studying the erosion of democratic norms. Academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in History from UCLA.
