Ewa Luger

Co Director, Institute Of Design Informatics at The University of Edinburgh

Ewa Luger has a rich and diverse work experience. Ewa currently serves as the Programme Co-Director for Bridging Responsible AI Divides (BRAID) at the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) since 2022. Prior to this role, they held multiple positions at The University of Edinburgh, including Professor and Personal Chair in Human-Data Interaction, Co-Director of the Institute of Design Informatics, and Chancellor's Fellow. Ewa has also worked as a Co-Director of the Institute of Design Informatics at Edinburgh College of Art, Director of Research Innovation, and Deputy Research Director at the Edinburgh Futures Institute. Ewa Luger has been involved in various advisory roles, serving as an Expert Advisor for the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) and a Fellow at The Alan Turing Institute. Ewa has also played a significant role in the development and implementation of Scotland's AI Strategy. Additionally, they have contributed their expertise to EPSRC as a member of the Strategic Advisory Team and Programme Advisory Body. At Edinburgh College of Art, they served as the Research Excellence Framework (REF) coordinator for the School of Design. Through their work, Ewa Luger has focused on human-centered inclusion policy, applied AI ethics, and the design of systems for better human data interaction.

Ewa Luger completed their education with a BA (Hons) degree in International Relations with Politics from De Montfort University in 2007. Ewa then pursued an MA (research track) in International Relations at the University of Nottingham from 2007 to 2009. Following this, they obtained a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Nottingham, completing their studies in 2013.
