University Securities Investment Team

The University Securities Investment Team (USIT) was founded in 2010 by Forrest Wilkinson and Harvey Powers to address a need at UT for comprehensive investing teaching. USIT’s mission was and remains the engagement of students in an educational and interactive atmosphere that promotes personal, occupational, and academic growth through active securities investing. Since its inception in 2010, USIT has grown from a small handful of members to UT’s largest, premier investing organization with a $40K+ student-run portfolio and 300+ members of all majors. From general meetings to analyst groups to industry funds, USIT offers its members numerous avenues to learn and pursue their interests. Members of USIT have gone on to pursue investment banking, consulting, entrepreneurship, private equity, corporate finance, and graduate school, just to name a few. Outside of providing educational opportunites for our members, we also host three major competitions a year: Texas Charity Pitch, Texas Stock Pitch, and Texas Shark Tank. Since 2014, we have donated $25K+ to charitable causes and awarded $30K+ to various undergraduate teams. Due to our strength as both an educational and social organization focused on expanding the opportunities of students interested in finance, we have been named as McCombs' Most Outstanding Organization in 2012, 2015, and 2017 and Finalist for Best Professional Organization in 2018 UT Swing Out Awards. We have also won and placed at multiple national investment competitions, including those hosted by the University of Michigan, the University of Southern California, Harvard, Stanford, and William and Mary.
