Gijs Ten Buuren began their career as an Account Assistant (Internship) at McCann/Momentum in 2008. Gijs then worked as a Junior Strategic Planner, Account Executive (Internship) at Boondoggle in 2010. From 2011 to 2014, they served as a Marketing Consultant at Yellowfizz. In 2013, they were a Committee Member (Extracurricular) at happyChaos. In 2015, they worked as a Strategic Planner at Wunderman Thompson. Gijs joined bunq in 2016 as a Brand Builder before moving on to become a Strategist at The Valley later that year. At The Valley, they eventually became the Head of Strategy | Strategy Director, responsible for the agency's consultancy department. Gijs also served as a Jury member at Esprix Awards in 2018. Currently, they are a Food Writer | Restaurant Critic at de Buik, an independent journalistic platform focusing on Amsterdam's food culture.

Gijs Ten Buuren completed their education with a Master's degree in Persuasive Communication from the University of Amsterdam in 2013. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Communication Science (Shortened Bachelor) from the University of Amsterdam in 2012. Gijs began their academic journey with a Bachelor's degree in Commercial Economics from Saxion University of Applied Sciences in 2010. Lastly, they earned their HAVO diploma with a focus on Economics & Society from Bonhoeffer College Van der Waalslaan in 2006.
