Tonia Cowan

Director Graphics at The Wall Street Journal

Tonia Cowan began their career in 1990 as a news artist for the Canadian Press. In 1994, they joined the Associated Press as Deputy Art Director. In 2000, they moved to Newsweek, where they worked as a 3D News Artist. From 2004 to 2007, they were the Graphics Director for the Toronto Star. From 2007 to 2015, they worked as Graphics Editor for The Globe and Mail. In 2015, they became Graphics Director for the Boston Globe Media. In 2017, they were promoted to Deputy Design Director. Tonia is currently the Director of Graphics at The Wall Street Journal.

Tonia Cowan is a fine art painter who has also studied political science at McMaster University.

They are on a team with Gerard Baker - Editor at Large, Larry L. Hoffman - Production, and Michael W. Miller - Senior Editor, Features & WSJ Weekend. Their manager is Matt Murray, Editor in Chief.
