Iain Russell

Director, Meteorological Research & Development at The Weather Network

Iain Russell has a significant amount of work experience in the field of meteorology. Iain began their career in 1987 as a Meteorologist at Oceanroutes UK Ltd and worked there until 1990. Iain then moved on to The Weather Department (UK) Ltd, where they held the position of Meteorologist from 1990 to 1993. In 1993, Iain joined WSI Corporation (Europe) and served as a Meteorologist until 1995 when they were promoted to Manager of Meteorological Services, a role they held until 2000. In 2000, they joined The Weather Network as a Meteorologist and later took on the role of Weather Product Development Coordinator from 2001 to 2005. From 2005 to 2012, Iain served as the Manager of Content Development at The Weather Network before being promoted to Director of Meteorological Research & Development in 2012, where they currently work.

Iain Russell attended Sheridan College from 2004 to 2008, studying Computer Programming, Computer Systems, Databases, Statistical Analysis, and Project Management. In 2007, they briefly attended the Ivey Business School at Western University for Business Leadership. Prior to that, in 2003-2004, they studied Computer Science at Ryerson University. In terms of their higher education, Iain completed a Bachelor of Science Honors degree in Atmospheric & Marine Sciences, Meteorology, Oceanography, Maritime Business, and Nautical Studies from the University of Plymouth, which they attended from 1984 to 1987. Additionally, Iain has obtained various certifications from edX in fields such as Data Science, Analytics, and Climate Change.
