Alena Maschke is an accomplished journalist with extensive experience in various reporting roles across multiple platforms. Currently serving as a special assignment correspondent at The Times-Picayune | Nola.com since June 2022, Alena focuses on the recovery efforts in Lake Charles, Louisiana, following multiple federally declared disasters. Prior experience includes serving as a digital producer for ZDF/Melevision, where Alena created online news content, and as a reporter for the Long Beach Post, covering local businesses and political dynamics. Alena also worked as a community watchdog reporter for Desert Sun Media Group, focusing on the influence of the cannabis industry and immigrant communities. Further roles included a reporting internship at Naples Daily News and freelance work while studying at Columbia University, where Alena earned a Master’s in Journalism with a focus on data journalism. Alena holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and participated in an academic exchange program at UCLA.
