Shimon Eckhouse

Shimon Eckhouse has been involved in the medical and technology industry for over 50 years. Shimon began their career in 1969 as a scientist, team leader and head of department at Rafael, Armament Development Authority of Israel. In 1986, they became the head of product development and technical director at Maxwell Technologies. In 1992, they founded ESC Medical Systems (now Lumenis) and served as the chairman and CEO. Shimon invented IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) in 1992, which enabled the company to become the first global leader in medical and aesthetic lasers. In 2000, they co-founded Syneron-Candela and took it public on Nasdaq in 2004. In 2001, they co-founded Tulip Ltd., Rapid Medical Ltd., and Opticul Diagnostic Ltd. In 2005, they co-founded Epitomee Medical and served as the chairman of the board. In 2008, they co-founded Rapid Medical and served as the chairman of the board. In 2014, they founded Alon MedTech Ventures, an incubator in Israel that invests in early stage start-ups in health care technologies, and served as the founder, owner and chairman. In 2016, they co-founded Theranica Bio-Electronics Ltd. and served as the chairman of the board. In 2017, they co-founded Sofwave and served as the chairman.

Shimon Eckhouse obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Physics from UC Irvine between 1975 and 1978. Prior to that, they obtained a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Physics from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology between 1963 and 1967.
