John Hainze

Vice President, Science and Research at Thermacell Repellents

John Hainze has extensive work experience in various roles related to science and research. John is currently serving as the Vice President of Science and Research at Thermacell Repellents, Inc. Prior to this, they worked as an Adjunct Faculty at Seattle University starting from 2016. From 2010 to 2020, they were the President of BioOpus LLC, a consultancy focused on insect research and green, sustainable tools. John also engaged in projects related to environmental ethics, religion, and science. From 2009 to 2015, they worked as an Adjunct Faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, teaching graduate seminars and serving as a co-investigator on a mosquito repellent test methodology grant. John also taught Organismal Biology laboratories at Carroll University from 2009 to 2010. Prior to these academic roles, they had a long tenure at SC Johnson, where they served in various positions including Senior Research Associate, Senior Section Manager, Manager, and Scientist. In these roles, they were responsible for special projects, new product development, managing budgets and staff, and developing improved insect control products for global markets. John also worked in England for 3 years as the R&D manager for the European business. Overall, John Hainze has a strong background in science, research, and product development.

John Hainze completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Lewis & Clark College from 1973 to 1977. John then pursued further education and obtained their PhD in Entomology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison between 1980 and 1984. After a significant gap in their education, John returned to school and earned a Master's Degree in Religion/Religious Studies with a concentration in Ethics from Yale University from 2013 to 2015.
