Heang Ly is rooted in the field of youth development, group dynamics and systems, diversity, equity and inclusion, conflict resolution, and nonprofit management. Heang spent significant time, 13 years, at the Center for Teen Empowerment providing direct service in youth organizing, advocacy, and community development issues. While at the organization, she also provided consulting services and technical assistance to nonprofits, schools, and cities. She left to open her own independent consulting practice, working largely with grassroots community-based nonprofits and higher education institutions as a seasoned consultant, facilitator, and trainer. She has taught over 3,000 people of all ages on a variety of topics such as curriculum development, facilitation skills, conflict resolution, feedback systems, staff engagement, equity issues, and more.
Heang is the co-author of the chapter “Tensions of Purpose: Strategies for Youth and Adults to Carve a Pathway of Hope and Create Action toward a Just and Equitable World” in the book “At our Best: Building Youth-Adult Partnerships in Out-of-School Time Settings” published by Information Age Publishing. Her short story "The Lotus Gift" was published in the award-winning book “Troubling Borders: An Anthology of Art and Literature by Southeast Asian Women in the Diaspora”.
Ms. Ly holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology and Education Studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a Master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy. In addition, she is a graduate of the Institute for Nonprofit Practice, where she received a certificate in nonprofit management and leadership from Tufts University.
