Operating Partner at Thoma Bravo

Gene Austin is an Operating Partner at Thoma Bravo. He has over 30 years of experience leading private and public software companies, including 19 years as CEO. Most recently, Gene was the CEO of Quorum Software, where he led the company through a significant transformation from a provider of accounting and operational software in North America to a global provider of software and services throughout the energy value chain. During his four years, the company made six acquisitions and a merger to produce the largest software company dedicated to the oil and gas energy market. Before Quorum, he was CEO at Bazaarvoice, the leading provider of user-generated content for retailers and brands. Bazaarvoice was in transition, and Gene led the company to profitability and growth and on to a successful sale in 2018. Before Bazaarvoice, he led venture-backed Convio, a leading provider of fundraising and marketing solutions for nonprofits, through significant growth and expansion culminating in a 2010 IPO and a 2012 sale to Blackbaud. Gene holds an MBA from Washington University, where he received the 2019 Olin Business School Distinguished Alumni Award, and he has a BS degree in Engineering Management from Southern Methodist University.
