Joseph Bavaria

Joseph Bavaria, MD, currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at Jefferson Health and is the Anthony E. Narducci Professor. In addition, Joseph holds the position of Executive Director at the Bruce and Robbi Toll Heart & Vascular Institute and has been recognized as the 52nd President of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons. Prior to joining Jefferson Health in January 2024, Joseph was a Professor of Surgery at Penn Medicine, where tenure spanned from 1992 to January 2024, and included the roles of Cardiovascular Surgeon, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor. Joseph Bavaria received a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from Tulane University School of Medicine, graduating from 1979 to 1983.
