POSITION: Maintenance Technician III

REPORTS TO: Manager of Building and Grounds

START DATE: ASAP

DURATION: Full Time, Year Round, Non-Exempt

LOCATION: Cathleen Stone Island, Boston, MA

POSITION SUMMARY

The position requires the Maintenance Technician III to be a working member of the maintenance team, generally handling a majority of all skilled work, including: carpentry, light electrical, plumbing. The Maintenance Technician III reports to the Manager of Building and Grounds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform skilled labor alongside maintenance staff members (carpentry, painting, light electrical, plumbing)

  • Ensure that all work is being performed in a safe fashion and in accordance with OSHA best practices.

  • In conjunction with the Director of Island Operations, maintain a master tasking sheet (“to-do list”)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College Diploma preferred but not required

  • 3-5 years’ experience in the trades with escalating responsibility

  • OSHA 10 required, OSHA 30 preferred

  • Light carpentry, interior and exterior painting, light electrical (replacing receptacles and switches), plumbing

  • The ability to effectively manage a team in the absence of the Island Foreman

  • The ability to maintain a calm demeanor in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

  • Desire to contribute, by way of fulfilling job responsibilities, to the organizational mission of providing character development for Boston’s young people.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Must be comfortable working outside in a coastal environment, sometimes in inclement weather.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The candidate must be able to ride a ferry daily and traverse an island of varying terrains

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs unassisted.

  • The ability to stand for 5 plus hours per day
