Matt Carson

Manager, Product Management at THREAD research

Matt Carson has a diverse background in data science and research. Matt is currently working as an Associate Manager of Data Science at THREAD since April 2022. Prior to this, they worked as a Data Scientist at THREAD from July 2021 to April 2022.

Before joining THREAD, Matt worked at Jury-X LLC as a Trial Researcher from January 2019 to July 2021. In this role, they conducted real-time Voir Dire research and analysis for legal firms, focusing on personal injury, medical malpractice, and product liability cases. Matt also performed additional analysis on empaneled juries.

Matt's research experience includes working as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from April 2020 to April 2021. Here, they utilized machine learning and repeated measure modeling on longitudinal data to study the effects of perceived racial discrimination on chronic pain outcomes in Black Americans. Matt also conducted statistical analysis on patient data to investigate predictors for differences in chronic and acute pain outcomes between Black and White Americans post-motor vehicle collision. Additionally, Matt cleaned and analyzed sensitive patient information in R for further clinical research purposes.

Prior to their graduate studies, Matt worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from August 2015 to May 2019. In this role, they performed statistical analysis on large cohort datasets using SPSS and Microsoft Excel. Matt also ran GWAS analysis using PLINK to identify SNPs associated with neurological diseases, resulting in a publication and others in progress. Matt also helped construct manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.

Overall, Matt Carson has a range of experience in data science, trial research, and research assistance, applying statistical analysis and machine learning techniques to various domains.

Matt Carson earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology and Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2015 to 2019. Following this, they pursued a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Public Health Data Science at the same institution from 2019 to 2021.
