Paul Mockapetris has worked in a variety of roles in the technology industry since 1999. Paul began their career as CTO of UrbanMedia, and then served as Chairman & Chief Scientist of Nominum, Inc from 2001 to 2009. Paul also served as an Advisor for Acorn Technology and LignUp in 2001 and 2006, respectively. From 2009 to 2013, they were a Visiting Scholar at Universite Pierre et Marie Curie and a Director at Farsight Security, Inc. In 2013, they also joined the ChaIr Identifier Technology Strategy Pannel at ICANN. In 2015, they became a Chief Scientist Board Member at ThreatSTOP, Inc. and in 2018 they became an Advisor at Coinweb.io.

Paul Mockapetris began their education at Boston Latin School from 1960 to 1966, where they studied Latin, Physics, and Chemistry. Paul then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1966 to 1971, where they earned a BS in Physics and Electrical Engineering. Paul concluded their education with a PhD in Information and Computer Science from UC Irvine from 1973 to 1982.
