Derek Thurber, EdD has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Derek started their professional career as the Paralegal/Office Manager at The Spiva Law Firm. From there, they moved on to Riverland Community College, where they served as the Tutoring Services Coordinator. Derek then joined Northwestern University as an Instructional Designer and later as an Instructional Technologist. Their responsibilities included course migration, developing online orientations, and designing and evaluating blended-format graduate courses. Currently, Derek is employed at Arizona State University, where they have held various roles such as Instructional Designer, Senior Learning Designer, and Principal Teaching + Learning Specialist. In these roles, they have led curriculum improvement efforts, developed comprehensive databases, and supervised and mentored staff members. Derek Thurber has demonstrated expertise in instructional design, program development, and strategic planning throughout their career.

Derek Thurber, EdD, obtained a Doctor of Education (EdD) degree in Learning and Innovation from Arizona State University in 2023. Prior to that, they received a Master of Science (MS) degree in Higher Education/Higher Education Administration from Northwestern University in 2015. Their undergraduate studies led to a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in History from Whitman College in 2011.
