Laura Sousa has over 30 years of work experience in various healthcare settings. Laura started their career in the United States Air Force as a Captain in the Nurse Corps. Following their military service, they worked as an Emergency Department Manager at St. Mary Hospital, where they designed and opened the Express Care area. Laura then became a Nurse Manager in the Emergency Department at Norwalk Hospital, where they supervised over 100 employees and opened new departments. After that, they joined United States Surgical as a Sr. QA Analyst, where they investigated and responded to customer complaints for surgical devices. Laura later worked at Waterbury Hospital as a Risk Management Coordinator and Clinical Education Consultant, focusing on patient safety and educational initiatives. Laura then moved to St. Vincent's Health System as a Clinical Risk Specialist before finally becoming the Director of Risk Management and Patient Advocacy at Tidelands Health. Throughout their career, Laura Sousa has demonstrated a dedication to improving patient safety and enhancing healthcare systems.

Laura Sousa has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Widener University, obtained from 1982 to 1984. Laura also has a Master's degree in Health Professions Education from Seton Hall University, obtained from 1992 to 1994. Additionally, they obtained a high school diploma from Downingtown High School from 1976 to 1980. Laura Sousa has additional certifications as a Certified Professional Healthcare Risk Manager (CPHRM) from the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM), obtained in 2014, and as a HealthStream Administrator from HealthStream Corporation.
