Karen Campbell

VP, Student Affairs at Tidewater Community College

Dr. Campbell provides college-wide leadership for admissions, recruitment, registration, records, advising, educational accessibility, student success, testing services, student activities, student conduct, career services, Center for Military and Veterans Education (CMVE), Great Expectations, Women’s Center, and Open Door Project. She also oversees Emergency Preparedness and Safety and Security and is responsible for the management and implementation of the college’s quality enhancement plan (QEP).

Dr. Campbell joined TCC in 2005 and has more than 27 years of experience in higher education. Prior to her appointment, Dr. Campbell held several leadership positions at the college. She served as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, Associate Vice President for Academic and Career Planning and P.A.C.E, and Associate Vice President for Recruitment, Admission, and Enrollment. Before coming to Tidewater Community College, Dr. Campbell spent 12 years working in progressively responsible positions within student affairs at the College of William and Mary, James Madison University, and Emory University.

Dr. Campbell earned her Ph.D. in Higher Education from Old Dominion University, a master’s of education in counseling psychology with a concentration in college student personnel administration from James Madison University, and a bachelor’s of science in business administration from the University of Richmond. In 2011, she received the chancellor’s fellowship and was the recipient of the outstanding doctoral student award in 2013.

She is State Chair of the Board of Directors for the American Council on Education (ACE) Women’s Network of Virginia and has served as a member of this board since 2016.
