Nick Houston began their work experience in 2003 as an Engineering Officer Utilities at Matamata Piako District Council, where they provided engineering services for subdivisions and building development and oversaw capital and renewal projects. Nick then moved on to South Waikato District Council as a Senior Services/GIS Officer before joining Hastings District Council in 2007 as a Senior Compliance Engineer, where they managed resource consent applications and oversaw compliance with consent conditions.
In 2010, Nick joined Waikato Regional Council as a Works Supervisor, responsible for delivering maintenance and capital work programs, developing river management plans, and supervising work projects.
Nick then worked at Veolia Water NZ as a Contract Engineer before joining Timaru District Council in 2014. At Timaru District Council, Nick held various roles including Water Services Technician, Water Services Project Manager, and currently, Water Services Project Team Leader.
Nick Houston's education history includes several qualifications in civil engineering. In 2011-2012, they attended Infratrain, where they obtained a National Diploma in Civil Engineering Applied (Level 6). Then, they pursued further studies at the Wintec - Waikato Institute of Technology, but the start and end years are not specified. At Wintec, Nick earned an NZ Diploma in Engineering, Level 6 (Civil), focusing on civil engineering.
