Job Description

Our fast-growing company is seeking a construction estimator intern to assist our team of senior estimators. We need someone with strong math skills and excellent communication skills to write proposals, cost estimates, and detailed takeoffs on our construction projects. The ideal candidate will have 3 years of experience in the construction industry, preferably in estimating and/or site work.

THIS IS NOT A REMOTE POSITION! IN OFFICE POSITION ONLY!

Please note this position is subject to seasonal layoff for roughly 6-8 weeks.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop estimate budgets from various types of bid documents and specifications

  • Provide information to Subcontractors and Vendors

  • Estimate time, labor, construction materials, and product costs to determine overall cost for construction projects

  • Provide accurate and clear quantity takeoff information to provide a detailed list of materials and assess the total construction costs

  • Solicit quotes and follow-up for quotable materials, equipment, and subcontractors

  • Collaborate & assist Senior Estimators with various tasks

  • Thoroughly read plans and specifications and review for accurate scope of work and means & methods assessment.

  • Ensure thorough and accurate quantity takeoffs

  • Evaluate proposals, specifications, blueprints, and construction documents to understand the project as a whole

  • Work closely with the construction project managers to oversee and coordinate the bid process for vendors and subcontractors

  • Work with the sales team and operation team to develop estimates

  • Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends

  • Perform additional duties as assigned

PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Construction, site-work or excavation experience preferred

  • College Degree in construction or civil engineering or related field with 1 year of intern experience will be considered

  • Organized, detail oriented, the ability to multi-task, and adapt

  • Prioritize workload and consistently meet deadlines in response to changing tasks and demands

  • Ability to work well under pressure

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Strong analytical and math skills

  • Team player who is willing to contribute positively to the culture

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Constant use of speech, hearing, and sight abilities, repetitive use of hands and wrists, handling, grasping, and reaching using computers, telephones, fax machines, and other office equipment

  • Prolonged periods of sitting while performing desktop activities, frequent lifting, and carrying of up to 5-10lbs of paperwork and files, frequently bends and stoops while obtaining files in lower drawers
