Patrick Day, Ph.D. Candidate has over 11 years of work experience. In 2010, they began their career as a Lead Software Engineer at GE Energy. There they were responsible for using Agile Software Development Methodologies to deliver highly complex Smart Grid software products using Java technologies. In 2012, they joined Oracle as a Sr. Software Developer, where they were responsible for design, development, migration, and maintenance of Java based applications. In 2013, Patrick moved to Hitachi ABB Power Grids as a Solutions Architect. Patrick's primary responsibilities included partnering with various business stakeholders and technology leaders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions and system designs. In 2014, they joined The Weather Company as a Principal Software Engineer & Solutions Architect, where they were responsible for participating in the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) in the development of a cloud based web services platform. In 2016, Patrick moved to Catch My Code as Managing Principal and to ADP as a Principal Application Developer & Software Architect. At ADP, they worked on the Next Generation Payroll implementation which included a modern technology stack and a Domain Specific Language (DSL) for payroll practitioners. In 2017, they joined GE Digital as Chief Enterprise Architect - Data & Analytics and Principal Software Architect & Data Scientist. Patrick's primary responsibilities included ensuring that the respective business, solution, data and technology perspectives were in line with GE Power Digital’s technology and governance strategies, policies and standards. In 2020, they joined Move Upward as Chief Technology Officer & Board Member. In 2021, they joined Microsoft as Principal Software Engineering Lead and Tomestic as Chief Technology Officer. At Microsoft, Patrick is responsible for managing a team of 12 talented software engineers within the Engineering Systems organization. At Tomestic, their responsibilities include creating a technical roadmap and owning all the technical development including; the architecture across the entire enterprise such as; applications, cloud, data analytics, infrastructure, and automation.
Patrick Day has been pursuing an education in the field of Computational Engineering since 2016, when they began their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Candidate program at Mississippi State University. Prior to this, they obtained a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2021, and a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Applied Systems Engineering from the same institution in 2013. Day also holds two Bachelor of Science degrees from DeVry University, one in Computer Engineering Technology and one in Electronic Engineering Technology, which they obtained in 2002. Day also has several certifications, including an AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate from Amazon Web Services (AWS) obtained in 2019, an Oracle Certified Associate, Java SE 7 Programmer from Oracle obtained in 2013, a Six Sigma Green Belt from GE obtained in 2010, and a Certified Software Test Automation Specialist (CSTAS) from the International Institute for Software Testing.
