Valeria de Paiva

Valeria de Paiva serves as a Principal Research Scientist at Topos Institute since January 2020, having previously held the same position at Samsung Research America from March 2019 to February 2020. Valeria's extensive background includes roles as a Senior Research Scientist at Nuance Communications, and Rearden Commerce, focusing on projects such as sentiment analysis of hotel reviews using open-source ontologies. Valeria's academic contributions include a Lecturer position at Stanford University and an Assistant Professor role at the University of Birmingham, where research on linear functional programming and type theory was conducted. Valeria earned a Ph.D. in Pure Mathematics from the University of Cambridge and a Master's degree in Mathematics from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro.
