Andrew Hopewell

Andrew Hopewell has extensive experience in planning and community development. Andrew is currently the Director of Planning and Community Development for the Town of Culpeper, Virginia, a position they have held since October 2020. Prior to that, they worked as the Assistant Chief of Planning for Fauquier County from August 2014 to October 2020. Andrew also worked for Spotsylvania County from September 2006 to August 2014, where they held various roles including Comprehensive Planner, Senior Planner, Planner III, Planner II, and Planner I. During their time at Spotsylvania County, they were responsible for leading staff members on updates to the Comprehensive Plan, conducting conformity reviews for rezoning and special use permit cases, analyzing fiscal and economic impacts of projects, and generating demographic analysis and projections.

Andrew Hopewell attended several educational institutions throughout their academic career. Andrew first pursued a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Economics & History from Wesleyan University, where they studied from 1995 to 1999. Following their undergraduate studies, they pursued a Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning at UC Irvine, which they completed between 1999 and 2001.

In terms of additional certifications, Andrew obtained the designation of Certified Zoning Administrator (CZA) from the VIRGINIA ASSOCIATION OF ZONING OFFICIALS in October 2021. Andrew also obtained the AICP certification (American Institute of Certified Planners) in July 2010.

Moreover, Andrew also participated in the Leadership Fauquier program from 2015 to 2016, although this particular experience did not lead to a degree or any specific field of study.
