Loralea Carruthers

Loralea Carruthers is an experienced public servant and advocate with a commitment to education and community representation. Serving as a Councillor for the Town of East Gwillimbury since December 2018 and as a Public School Board Trustee for the York Region District School Board since December 2003, Carruthers has been elected multiple times to leadership roles, including Board Chair and Budget Chair. Previously, Carruthers held the position of Chair of the Board of Trustees at Tarion Warranty Corporation, where responsibilities included consumer advocacy. Additionally, Carruthers represented the Ontario Liberal Party in the 2014 and 2018 provincial elections and served as Vice President for the Ontario Public School Boards' Association, negotiating successful collective agreements. An advertising executive from 1987 to 1993, Carruthers managed multimillion-dollar budgets across various media campaigns. Educational achievements include a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Toronto, an M.Ed. in Digital Technology from Ontario Tech University, and an Executive Certificate in Conflict Management from the University of Windsor Faculty of Law.
