Town of Surfside
Charles Kesl currently serves as Commissioner for the Town of Surfside, Florida, since March 2020. In addition, Charles has been the owner, operator, and manager of Power Up Enterprises, LLC, known as Batteries Plus Bulbs in Miami Lakes, since December 2009, focusing on the sale and recycling of batteries and light bulbs. Prior to these roles, Charles operated as a self-employed consultant in technology and web design from 2008 to April 2010 and worked at The New School from 1996 to 2008 in various leadership positions related to academic technology. Charles's earlier experience includes managing roles at Pathways to Housing and serving as a research associate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Charles holds both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Communication with a focus on Broadcast Journalism and Photography from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, completed between 1987 and 1993.
