Tony Zhan

Tony Zhan has a strong background in software engineering with experience in various companies and projects. Tony worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Trace Headcount and Spend Management, where they developed, maintained, and deployed their main SaaS web application. As one of the founding Engineers, they contributed to over 200 product releases and participated in system design discussions. Tony also mentored other developers on the team. Before this role, they worked as a Software Engineer at the same company.

In addition to their work at Trace, Tony worked on several independent projects. Tony built a responsive web application called Central Playlist, which integrated the Youtube and Spotify APIs for playlist creation and playback. Using React, Node, Express, and MongoDB, they implemented OAuth 2.0 with Spotify refreshable user authorization flow for secure login. Tony also designed and built Magic Shoes, a full-stack web app that simulates an online shoe retailer. Tony reengineered the backend to improve scaling and implemented horizontal scaling using Nginx load balancer and AWS EC2. Tony used Terraform for this project. Another project they worked on was YumpSF, a restaurant review and recommendations app. Tony designed the frontend using React and styled components, wrote extensive unit tests, optimized load speeds, and deployed the microservice on AWS EC2 using Docker.

Before their professional career, Tony worked as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Toronto. Overall, Tony Zhan has a diverse range of experiences and technical skills in software engineering.

Tony Zhan attended the University of Toronto from 2013 to 2017, where they obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance and Economics from the Rotman School of Commerce. In 2018, they enrolled in the Advanced Software Engineering Immersive Program, Computer Science at Hack Reactor. Additionally, in March 2019, Tony Zhan obtained a certification as a Triplebyte certified Generalist Software Engineer from Triplebyte.
