Tom Lenaerts

Tom Lenaerts serves as Chair of BNVKI-BAIAI, where Tom focuses on community building for artificial intelligence in the Benelux region. Tom is also an expert assigned by the Belgian and Brussels governments to the Global Plan for AI, specifically involved with responsible AI initiatives. In academia, Tom holds the position of Professor and President of the Computer Science Department at Université libre de Bruxelles, alongside roles as Research Associate Professor at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Co Head of the Machine Learning Group at ULB, contributing extensively to research in AI, machine learning, and computational biology. Additionally, Tom has been active on various boards, including the Scientific Committee of TRAIL and previously with AI4Belgium, while participating as a visiting scholar at multiple institutions. Tom holds degrees in Applied Computer Science from Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Karel de Grote-Hogeschool.
