Susan Holmes has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Their most recent role was as an Editor for science grants and manuscripts, starting in February 2017. Prior to that, they worked as a Transcriptionist and QA at Appen beginning in 2016, and as a QA and Transcriptionist at TranscribeMe in 2015.
Before their involvement in transcription, Susan worked as an Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where they conducted research on genetic bases of psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. Their work involved utilizing the RED technique for detecting trinucleotide repeat expansions and identifying genetic mutations associated with ataxia and Huntington's disease.
Susan also has experience in education, working as an Assistant Elementary Teacher and Substitute teacher at Kennebec Montessori School from 2014 to 2020. Prior to that, they were a Substitute Teacher at rsu18 in 2014.
Earlier in their career, Susan held research positions as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania. Susan started their career as a High School Biology Teacher at Wyoming Seminary College Prep School and also worked as a Biologist at Information Management Services.
Susan Holmes completed their Bachelor's degree in Biology, General at Swarthmore College from 1980 to 1984. Susan then pursued further education at The Johns Hopkins University, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Human Genetics and Molecular Biology from 1988 to 1994.
