Billy Chen

Billy Chen is a certified public accountant specializing in nonprofit accounting, finance and audits. For the last 15+ years, they have worked with Bay Area progressive arts, environmental, LGBTQ, youth and other social justice organizations. They were born in Taiwan and grew up in Alabama, Louisiana, Los Angeles and Orange County, before attending Berkeley in the 90s and studying genetics, ethnic studies, and queer theory. They are constantly learning-succeeding-failing the practice of translating, narrating, and socializing finance so it can actually start working toward care, redistribution, and expanding life rather than ubiquitous extraction, exploitation, and violence for profit. Before joining TLC in March 2018, they were Finance Director at the National Center for Lesbian Rights for 5 years, and before that, they worked as an auditor of Bay Area nonprofit organizations at Crosby & Kaneda, CPAs. They are passionate about trans of color feminisms, politics, technologies and movements. They are on the board of the Transgender Gender Variant Intersex Justice Project.
