Internship - Molecular Assays And Screening

Internship · England, United Kingdom

Job description

Our Company

Transition Bio is an innovative, early-stage biotechnology company with the vision of being the world leader in data-driven discovery, analysis, and modulation of biological condensates. At Transition Bio, multidisciplinary teams with diverse skill sets in molecular biology, biophysics, chemistry, engineering, data science and machine learning work closely together, building first-in-class technology platforms for condensate analysis and high-throughput drug screening. With close affiliation to Cambridge and Harvard universities, our approach is truly original and encompasses a growing collection of novel technologies and methodologies.

The Opportunity

The internship will be focussed on identification and validation of small molecule hits using Transition Bio’s proprietary drug discovery platform. The internship is expected to last 6 months, with a view to start in May/June 2024; it represents an excellent opportunity for students who recently graduated with a university degree (or higher), or who are currently already working in the field and wish to gain further work experience in a rapidly developing biotechnology start-up.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Operation of Transition Bio’s proprietary microfluidic molecular screening platform for high-throughput chemical screening.

  • Validating hit compounds in orthogonal assays using a variety of biophysical and biochemical assays following established SOPs.

  • Development, testing and validation of new or modified assay protocols and SOPs.

  • Using in-house pipelines for data processing and analysis

  • Maintain good laboratory practices, including excellent record keeping using electronic laboratory notebook systems.

Required qualifications and experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, chemical biology, chemistry, or related fields. Students entering their final year of undergraduate studies would also be considered.

  • Experience working in a molecular and cell biology laboratory in an academic or industry setting, where molecular assay execution and development is performed to a high standard.

  • Ability to organise, analyse, and deliver information in a concise, accurate, and professional manner; strong written and oral communication skills; excellent data management skills.

  • An interest in cutting-edge science and a high degree of integrity and team orientation; a can-do motivating attitude.

  • Experience with standard molecular biology techniques (protein/DNA handling, UV/Fluorescence readings, gel electrophoresis, ELISA, PCR etc).

Exceptional candidates who may not fulfil all of the above desired level of skills and experiences will be considered.

Transition Bio is an equal opportunities employer. Consistent with the Equality Act 2010, all applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age; disability; gender reassignment; marriage and civil partnership; pregnancy and maternity; race; religion or belief; sex; sexual orientation.
