Stuart MacDonald

Stuart MacDonald is an experienced electrical engineer with a focus on system planning and asset management in the energy sector. Currently serving as the System Planning Group Manager at Transpower New Zealand since May 2004, Stuart oversees grid investments to ensure reliable electricity supply while facilitating the connection of renewable generation. Previous roles at Transpower include positions such as Asset Information and Power System Dynamics Manager and Power System Analysis Manager, where responsibilities spanned asset information management, grid modeling, and voltage stability studies. Prior to Transpower, Stuart worked at Siemens Energy on high-power transmission project controls and at GEC Alsthom T&D, focusing on HVDC link design. Stuart holds a PhD in High Voltage Direct Current and a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Canterbury.
