Simon Buckingham Shum is a Professor of Learning Informatics and the Director of the Connected Intelligence Centre at the University of Technology Sydney since August 2014, focusing on applied research and development in human-centered Learning Analytics and AI in Education. Prior to this role, Buckingham Shum served as a Visiting Fellow at the University of Bristol and held various academic positions at The Open University from 1995 to 2014, including Professor of Learning Informatics and Director of the SocialLearn Project, which explored the impact of social media on higher education. Buckingham Shum has also contributed to the education sector as Chair of Governors at Bushfield School and as a Governor at The Radcliffe School. Buckingham Shum holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of York, along with an M.Sc. in Ergonomics and a B.Sc. in Psychology from the same institution.
