Karin Lockovitch, a Treliant Senior Managing Director, Regulatory Compliance and Mortgage, is a 25-year banking and financial services executive. At Treliant, she leads the Regulatory Compliance and Mortgage Services division, to provide clients with valuable, applicable, and innovative solutions and support for their regulatory, compliance, and non-financial risk-related needs.

Karin’s experience and expertise enables her to provide Treliant’s clients with valuable and timely strategic advice and perspective on the industry, regulatory and legislative activity, and current events and emerging risks, to ensure that each client is provided the most relevant and impactful options for solutions and services to successfully meet their needs, and that these are delivered on time with excellence.

Her past responsibilities include credit, financial (asset/liability management, liquidity, capital, interest rate, market), and operational risk management, enterprise risk management, financial crimes, corporate ethics, data and information security, third-party risk, fair lending and customer protection, internal audit, and regulatory compliance. She has served as Chief Compliance, Credit, and Enterprise Risk Officer for major U.S. banks, foreign-owned banks, and non-banks, overseeing a broad scope of financial products and services including consumer, small business and commercial deposit and lending products; mortgage, auto, and indirect auto lending; unsecured lending; credit card; treasury management; payments; investments; trust; and insurance.

Karin also spent several years as a consultant advising fintechs and their bank partners on the design, implementation, and maturity of effective banking-as-a-service (BaaS) models, the appropriate third-party partner risk management programs, risk and compliance programs, and operational optimization and resilience. She also advised on several bank merger and acquisition strategies, and de novo bank charter applications.

Karin brings deep expertise and experience in designing, building, and managing effective enterprise risk and compliance frameworks that include corporate and board governance, process, risk and internal control mapping and risk assessment, quality monitoring, testing and internal audit, issue management and remediation, change management, implementation of the line-of-defense model, third-party risk management, regulatory exam management, management and board reporting, customer complaint management, employee conduct, ethics and hotline, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and fraud operations, fair lending testing and analysis, reporting under the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) and Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), redlining analyses and needs assessments, community reinvestment program design, business continuity and disaster recovery, information security and privacy, model validation, Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) programs, Reg W, capital planning, asset/liability management, and corporate responsibility for programs on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). She is skilled at understanding the needs, priorities, risk profile, and readiness of an organization, and able to tailor the appropriate prioritization and design of these programs accordingly.

Karin is experienced in designing high-performing teams through optimization of tools and technology, effective organizational design, and identifying and retaining critical talent. She has built and managed large teams and led several successful risk reorganizations that not only reduced costs but improved overall effectiveness and productivity of the risk and compliance teams, and had significant positive impact on the enterprise-wide adoption of the line-of-defense model and risk culture.

Karin brings to Treliant deep experience working with all U.S regulatory agencies, having experienced many significant regulatory changes and events through her career, including leading the implementation of notable regulatory changes and the remediation of major enforcement actions. She has demonstrated success in developing and fostering positive and effective engagement and coordination with regulators.

Prior to joining Treliant, Karin consulted for banks, non-bank lenders and insurance providers, fintechs, and de-novo bank/banks-in-formation, where she advised on the design, build, and maturity of enterprise risk and compliance programs, advised on and led bank charter application and bank acquisition strategies, led an extensive project to evaluate the evolution and opportunities of the Utah banking and fintech industries, and served as a fractional Chief Compliance or Chief Risk Officer. Prior to consulting, Karin was Executive Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for Bank of the West, and before that, held the same position for Zions Bancorporation. Karin was also Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for SunTrust’s (now Truist) Consumer and Small Business division. And in prior roles, she was Director of Compliance Risk Management for Ally Bank and Chief Credit Officer for Lehman Brothers Commercial Bank and American Express Centurion Bank.

Karin holds an MBA from the University of Utah and a BA from the University of Massachusetts. She is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) and Certified Treasury Professional (CTP).

She is active in many financial services trade associations, including the Risk Management Association, Consumer Bankers Association, American Bankers Association, National Association of Independent Bankers, and Utah Association of Financial Services. She is a former U.S. financial services delegate to the Basel Committee on Governance, Culture, and Conduct, and a frequent speaker at industry events and conferences. Karin is also an active member of CHIEF, a membership network for executive women leaders, and has been a speaker and panel participants at a number events to discuss the opportunities and challenges a woman faces in the workplace, and the many successes that women have achieved.
