James Chen

Director, Computational Biology at TRex Bio

James Chen has a long history of work experience in the field of computational biology and data analytics. James began their career in 2007 as a Graduate Student at Columbia University Medical Center. From 2014 to 2020, they held the role of Precision Medicine Fellow and Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the same institution. In 2020, they took on the role of Senior Scientist, Computational Biology Expert at Boehringer Ingelheim. In 2021, they joined Repertoire Immune Medicines as Principal Scientist, Computational Biology and Data Analytics, where they led a group developing single-cell analytics including information theory-based signal de-convolution, integrative analytics, ML-based cell type classification and molecular phenotyping, and cross-platform integration. Projects spanned tumor- and disease tissue characterization and immune cell characterization, identifying novel targets and predicting potential mechanisms of immune response/activity and treatment outcome. Finally, in 2022, they began their current role as Director, Computational Biology at TRexBio.

James Chen received their Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biology from Case Western Reserve University in 2007 and their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Genetics and Development, Systems Biology from Columbia University in 2013. In November 2022, they obtained a certification in From the Laboratory to Leadership from The Leadership Edge.
