Position Summary:

The Fire System Technician is responsible for testing, inspecting, maintaining, and programming fire alarms. The technician will ensure fire alarm and fire suppression systems meet standards as dictated by state and local Fire Marshalls.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Diagnose problems and perform installation, service, and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and other related building system products at customer sites
  • Verify system functional performance to ensure proper operations according to contract requirements including testing, calibrating verify system and peripheral device operations as per preventative maintenance schedule
  • Perform complete site surveys and visual inspections of all system devices
  • Communicate system performance and deficiencies to customers for accurate and efficient quoting of recommended repairs
  • Perform all duties required to complete projects within estimate and according to specifications
  • Serve as a technical advisor on systems programming and configuration, and coordinate code requirements with local fire marshals as needed
  • Complete documentation of all work done, including all readings, offsets, etc
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications software/systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals
  • Exhibit excellent customer service skills by consistently communicating with the district staff and customers to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Keep abreast of changes and new developments in product and preventive maintenance techniques
  • Availability for and performance of duties outside of normal working hours as required
  • Participates in On-Call assignments/ schedules as required
  • Acts as a mentor and provides on-the-job training to lower level Field Service Technicians and Inspectors as assigned
  • Adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times
  • Administrative duties as necessary
  • Maintain vehicle and tools as per company policy

Experience and Education: 

Required:

  • Six (6)+ years in the installation and maintenance of Fire Safety products with Siemens programming experience required
  • FASA/BASA certified (or ability to be certified upon hire)
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver's license in good standing to meet the company's driving requirements
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language at a minimum 12th-grade level
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and be available on-call
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Able to perform installing, configuring, troubleshooting, programming, and replacing parts as need on all fire alarm systems and complete documentation as necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to use diagnostic tools such as; multi-meters, digital analyzers, programmers, and commissioning devices
  • Skilled with low voltage wiring and associated devices

  • NFPA Certification
  • SAFETY Act Certification

This role may require supervision, training, or directing other members of the crew assigned to assist you with your scope.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day.
  • Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ability to wear company-approved Personal Protective Equipment per local, state, federal, or OSHA regulations.
  • The employee must frequently lift and move items a minimum of 25 pounds, occasionally lifting and/or moving objects that weigh more than 100 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to perform physical duties listed above for extended periods.
  • This job's specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers/printers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  • This job operates in an indoor professional office or job site environment. May work outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Employees may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee may occasionally be exposed to various extreme conditions while at various locations.
  • Employees will be exposed to moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phones, printers, and light traffic).

Position Type, Expected Hours of Work, and Travel:

This is a full-time position.  Days and hours of work vary but equate to 40 hours per week.  May be requested to work overtime, nights, and weekends.

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
