Kathleen Hirano has a diverse work history in the field of scientific research and development. Kathleen started their career as an Associate Scientist at Amyris Inc in 2011, where they played a crucial role in the research and development process. In 2013, Kathleen joined the Joint BioEnergy Institute as a Research Assistant, gaining valuable experience in the field.

In 2013, Kathleen joined Novozymes as a Senior Research Associate (SRA1), where they contributed to the development of massively parallel, single molecule directed evolution platforms. Kathleen played a key role in conceiving new selection schemes and demonstrating proof-of-concept using high-sensitivity assays such as ddPCR, qPCR, and ELISA. Kathleen continued to excel in their field and was promoted to Associate Scientist (SRA2) in 2016.

Kathleen Hirano most recently worked at Triplebar since 2019, where they held various roles. Kathleen began as a Scientist 1, where they developed single-cell directed evolution platforms for strain and protein engineering at ultra high-throughput. Collaborating with a team of engineers and biologists, Kathleen successfully demonstrated the evolution of improved strains and proteins against desired metrics at scale. Kathleen also played a significant role in onboarding and engineering a variety of microbial host organisms.

In 2021, Kathleen transitioned to the role of Scientist 2 at Triplebar, further leveraging their expertise and contributing to the company's ongoing projects. Currently, they serve as the Technical Project Lead, overseeing a project with responsibilities that extend beyond their previous roles.

Kathleen Hirano pursued their education in the field of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Kathleen obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from UCLA, where they attended from 2005 to 2009. Later, they pursued their Master of Arts degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of California, Berkeley, which they successfully completed in the years 2009 to 2011.
