Karen Marklew

Chief People Officer at Tropic Biosciences

Karen Marklew started their career in 1984 as a Production Scientist at Amersham International, where they worked until 1987. Karen then moved on to Hestair Management Services, where they served as a Branch Manager from 1987 to 1990. Following that, they worked at REED as a Senior Branch Manager from 1990 to 1996.

In 1996, Karen joined GSK and held multiple roles over the course of their tenure. Karen started as a Senior Recruitment Manager, where they were responsible for setting up and managing the R&D Scientific Recruitment function. Karen then transitioned to the role of Head Global Induction, where they designed and implemented a Global Induction Programme. Lastly, they served as a Senior Director Human Resources, leading strategic HR initiatives and partnering with senior leadership in the global R&D business functions.

Most recently, in 2022, Karen joined Tropic as the VP of Human Resources. Tropic is a world-leading Agriculture gene editing company focused on sustainable crop varieties. In their role, Karen is responsible for driving HR strategies and initiatives to support the company's growth and vision of becoming a dominant seed business.

Karen Marklew attended Reed College Compton, Cotswolds from 1990 to 1992, where they obtained a CIPD degree. Karen also obtained additional certifications, including MBTI level A & B psychometric testing from PsytechSA in April 1999 and CIPD CPP Certificate Training Practice from Malpas Flexible.
