Michael O’Connor

Michael (Mike) O’Connor is a Managing Director in True Partners Consulting’s Chicago office. Mike has over 39 years of U.S. and international experience in public accounting and a wide variety of industries, including his most recent position as Tax Director in the Merger and Acquisition Group at Grant Thornton, LLP in Chicago.

Prior to Grant Thornton, Mike held the Tax Director position at a multi-billion dollar global printing company. He previously was Global Director of Tax Accounting at a multi-national food service company and Senior Director of Tax at a large publicly-held pharmaceutical manufacturer and distributor.

Mike has extensive experience and deep technical expertise in tax issues with respect to private equity transactions and strategic acquisitions. He is actively involved in providing tax services in areas such as tax structuring of complex private equity investments, tax due diligence and tax planning related to partnerships, corporations, and closely held S-Corporations across various industries including (but not limited to) healthcare, pharmaceutical, transportation, aviation, professional services, manufacturing, retail (both online and brick and mortar), financial services, technology and peer-to-peer sales. Recently, his focus has been centered on developing tax efficient structures for private equity healthcare investments with complex corporate practice of medicine regulatory concerns.

In addition to technical expertise, his major strengths include leadership and communication skills. Mike is a recurring presenter to multiple organizations such as Valuation Research Corporation for purposes of tax transaction education.

Mike received his Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from Lewis University. He is a licensed certified public accountant in the State of Illinois.
