Job description

Purpose of Position 

We are seeking an Estimator to join our team. An Estimator is responsible for all aspect of construction project. Take-off and cost calculations to determine how much it will cost a company to complete a project or provide products and services to its clients. This includes labor, material, time, and equipment requirements to determine the overall cost of the projects. The ideal candidate will do this by researching bidders, vendor and the costs of the materials, transport, labor, and equipment. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Previous working experience as a construction estimator for five (5) years

  • Basic understanding of accounting and estimating concept

  • In-depth knowledge of construction industry in general

  • Deep understanding of research methodology, data analysis and estimating metrics

  • Hands-on experience with complex data research activities

  • Good understanding of data analysis methods and KPIs

  • Familiarity with computer programs such as Sage Estimating or HCSS or similar

  • Great attention to detail

  • Superior time-management skills

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Well-organized and reliable

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Excellent negotiation abilities

  • BA in engineering, construction management or similar relevant field

  • Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or other qualification will be a plus

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Explore documentation to gain a deep understanding of the project requirements

  • Research the cost of items such as materials, transport, labor, and equipment.

  • Attend pre-bid meetings to assess project requirements for the Management Team

  • Communicate with regional leadership for suggested local vendors that can supply key materials and services to proposed project locations

  • Analyze bid documents including Geotech Reports and Civil Drawings for unique site conditions that may hinder access for our scope, potentially impacting costs

  • Carefully review concrete construction schedules, task durations, and start dates. Request schedule from clients if none are provided in the bid documents

  • Establish and maintain relationships with contractors and vendors

  • Secure quotes from suppliers and contractors within a specified time frame

  • Confirm that suppliers have location, capacity, service hours and resources to properly service our projects

  • Perform complex quantity take-off with help of plans and specification

  • Interpret and analyze contract documents, specifications and prepare proposal

  • Assess the risk levels associated with a project and discuss with manager

  • Liaison, consult and communicate with engineers, architect, owners, contractors.

  • Maintain bid log every week with latest updates from client

  • Prepare and submit proposal with required details, including cost breakdown to client

  • Create bid tab sheet reports for upper management review prior to bid submittal

  • Assist with bid for new clients and support the activities of buyers

  • Compile and organize material takeoffs and project data including site conditions

  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with the key vendors

  • Manage Estimating deadlines and stay on bid calendar for future assignments

  • Maintain bid tracking with general contractor after sending proposal

  • Stay in touch and prompt with client services

  • All other duties as assigned by management
