María Victoria Ruiz Pérez has a diverse work experience in the field of cancer research and biology. María Victoria started their career as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Universidad de Málaga, where they studied polyamine metabolism in the rare childhood tumor neuroblastoma and the involvement of polyamines and biogenic amines in rare diseases. María Victoria also served as a co-supervisor for a Master's thesis during this time.
Following their position at Universidad de Málaga, María Victoria worked as an Intern in the Biological Evaluations team at KEY2COMPLIANCE®. In this role, they gained experience in the evaluation of biological products.
María Victoria then joined Karolinska institutet, where they held two positions. First, they worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher, participating in three different projects focused on studying the effects of small molecule inhibitors of the oncogene MYC in lipid metabolism, analyzing the effects of MYC inhibitors in human cervical cancer and human renal cell carcinoma, and investigating MYCN control of metabolic processes in human neuroblastoma. María Victoria later became an Assistant Professor, conducting research in cancer biology and specifically studying the interplay between lipid metabolism and cell death, proliferation, and differentiation in neuroblastoma and other cancers. María Victoria'sresponsibilities included designing and performing research projects, writing grant proposals and scientific manuscripts, and staying updated on metabolic, signaling, and oncogene-related regulatory processes.
María Victoria then worked as a Consultant in Biological Evaluations and Toxicology at Key2Compliance™, where they provided expertise in evaluating biological products.
Most recently, they were a Senior Scientist focusing on rare diseases at Healx. In this role, they performed comprehensive curation of disease biology, natural history, epidemiology, unmet needs, preclinical and clinical drug candidates. María Victoria also wrote reports, internal presentations, and communication texts for the company's webpage, addressed data quality issues, and performed data analysis and functional interpretation.
María Victoria is currently employed as a Senior Translational Cancer Scientist at Turbine, where they continue their work in cancer research.
María Victoria Ruiz Pérez completed their education as follows:
From 2009 to 2013, they obtained a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the Universidad de Málaga.
In 2008-2009, they pursued a Master's Degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at the same university.
From 2003 to 2008, they completed their Bachelor's Degree in Biology, with a focus on General Biology, at the Universidad de Málaga.
In addition to their formal education, they obtained certifications in Python programming. In March 2023, they completed the "Learn Python 3" course at Codecademy and received a certification for it.
