Satellite Systems Engineer at Turion Space

Christian Hurley has a diverse work experience that spans various engineering roles in the aerospace industry. Christian started their career as a Referee for the Inland Empire Soccer Referee Association in 2014 before transitioning to engineering roles.

Christian joined the INLAND EMPIRE SOCCER REFEREE ASSOCIATION as a Referee from June 2014 to September 2015.

In 2016, Christian Hurley worked as a Research Assistant for HSSEAS Electrical Engineering from January 2016 to April 2016, followed by a role as a Manufacturing Engineer for Bruin Spacecraft Group from July 2016 to September 2016. During their time at Bruin Spacecraft Group, they were responsible for manufacturing parts of the ELFIN satellite using the HAAS TM-2 Mill.

From June 2016 to June 2017, Christian served as the Lead Chassis and Aerodynamics Engineer for Bruin Racing, where they oversaw the design of chassis and drag reduction systems on a Mini Baja SAE vehicle. During the same period, they also worked as the Technical Director | Baja SAE for Bruin Racing, leading a team of 25+ UCLA students in the prototyping, testing, and delivery of a competition-ready, all-terrain vehicle.

In 2018, they worked as a Flight Engineering Intern for Boeing in June 2018, where they conducted a trade study to design concepts of the APU Inlet Door Assembly for the 737 MAX. This study resulted in cost competitiveness and the concept being matured for production incorporation. Later in the same year, they also worked as a Project Mentor for UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, where they developed and delivered design project curriculum for ENGR 96A and a summer program for high school students.

Christian joined Boeing in July 2019 and held the position of Multi-Discipline Engineer. Christian worked as an Aviation Safety Engineer from January 2020 to October 2020, performing risk assessments on unanticipated in-service issues reported by airlines. From November 2020 to the present, they served as an Environmental Control Systems Engineer, investigating and determining the root cause of in-service events affecting ECS Systems reported by airlines.

Prior to their current role, Christian Hurley worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Tyvak, a Terran Orbital Company, from July 2021 to February 2023. Additionally, they are set to join Turion Space as a Satellite Design Engineer starting in February 2023.

Christian Hurley attended UCLA from 2015 to 2019. During this time, they studied Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering. No information is available regarding the specific degree they obtained.
