Joel Harris, J.D., M.S. has extensive work experience in the field of intellectual property law. Joel is currently working as the Vice President of Intellectual Property at Turnstone Biologics since April 2022. Prior to this, they served as an Intellectual Property Consultant at Orca Bio from August 2021 to April 2022.

From 2008 to 2020, Joel worked at InCube Labs as the Senior Director of Intellectual Property. In this role, they managed all intellectual property matters for a family of incubating companies focused on developing biopharmaceuticals, drug delivery systems, and medical devices for various diseases. Joel played a key role in the development and management of intellectual property portfolios, including writing patent applications and obtaining over 100 allowances. Joel also conducted freedom-to-operate analysis and formulated IP strategies.

In addition to their corporate experience, Joel also served as a Council Member at Escondido Elementary School Site Council from September 2012 to September 2014.

Before joining InCube Labs, Joel worked as a Patent Agent at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP from 2004 to 2007. Joel specialized in preparing and prosecuting patent applications related to medical devices, diagnostics, biotechnology, and other life science applications. Joel also provided IP strategy and due diligence support for start-up medical device and life science companies.

From 2002 to 2004, Joel worked as a Patent Agent at Incyte, where they focused on preparing and prosecuting patent applications related to genes, polypeptides, proteins, and bioinformatic applications. Joel was also involved in licensing and drug discovery partnerships with pharmaceutical companies.

Earlier in their career, Joel served as the Director of Intellectual Property at RITA Medical Systems from 2000 to 2002. Joel was responsible for all IP matters of the novel cancer treatment company and played a key role in preparing and prosecuting patent applications related to RF-based devices.

Joel began their career as a Patent Agent at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati from 1997 to 2000, where they gained experience in patent prosecution.
