Matthew Frankel

Treasurer at Turtle Conservancy

Matt serves as Treasurer on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Turtle Conservancy. He is an ER physician at the Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott, AZ, a philanthropist and, of course, a life-long turtle and tortoise enthusiast. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Zoology and a Master of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Maine and an MD from Wayne State University.

A strong supporter of global conservation, Matt also serves on the Boards of the Center for Biological Diversity and the Frankel Family Foundation, is the founder and Director of the Surprise Spring Foundation, is a Member on the Advisory Board for the Union of Concerned Scientists, and is a past Board member of Prescott’s Heritage Park Zoo.

The Turtle Conservancy is a nonprofit scientific and educational organization "for the conservation of turtles and tortoises around the world." Since 2005 the Conservancy has supported a highly successful breeding program at the Behler Chelonian Center along with many in situ research projects, adding to knowledge of chelonians.
