Heikki Lonka has over 30 years of work experience in various roles and positions. Heikki began their career in 1990 as a City Architect for Varkauden kaupunki, where they served until 1997. From 1997 to 2001, they worked as the Construction Management Chief at the City of Vantaa. Heikki then moved on to become the Deputy Mayor of the City of Vaasa from 2001 to 2008. During this time, they also served as a Member of the Board for Vaasa Parks. In 2008, they became the Head of Division at FCG Finnish Consulting Group Oy and held this position until 2010. From 2010 to 2016, they worked as a Senior Advisor at Granlund Oy, specializing in new product and service development in the fields of user interfaces and municipal services. In 2016, they joined WSP in Finland as a Director until 2020, before taking on the role of Executive Director of Development at Tuusulan kunta from 2020 to 2022. Heikki currently serves as the Project Director at Tuusulan kunta. Additionally, they have held leadership positions outside of their employment, such as Chairman of the Board for the Project Management Association Finland from 2009 to 2014.
Heikki Lonka completed their education in a chronological manner. From 1979 to 1986, they attended Aalto University, obtaining a Master of Architecture degree with a specialization in Public Buildings and History of Architecture. Following this, they pursued further studies at the University of Washington from 1987 to 1989, earning a Master of Architecture degree. Finally, from 1999 to 2007, Heikki Lonka returned to Aalto University to pursue a Doctor of Science (Technology) degree in Industrial Engineering and Management/Work Psychology.
