Christian Gutierrez

Christian Gutierrez has a strong background in the healthcare technology industry, with a focus on digital therapeutics and connected medical devices. Christian currently holds the position of Vice President, Business Development and Head of Digital Therapeutics at Twenty/Twenty Therapeutics, where they are shaping the future of Digital Ophthalmology and Connected Ocular Therapies. In this role, they are responsible for the development of smart ophthalmic devices, analytics, and interventions.

Prior to their current position, Christian worked at Verily Life Sciences from 2015 to 2021, where they served as the Research and Development - Connected Medical Devices and Therapies lead. Christian'sresponsibilities included leading multidisciplinary teams in the development of smart lens technologies and digital drug delivery platforms for the treatment of ocular diseases. Christian was also involved in the architecture and device integration strategy of Verily/Alcon's Smart Accommodating Contact Lens electronics platform.

Christian's career started at X, the moonshot factory (formerly Google[X]) in 2014, where they worked on healthcare moonshot research and development projects until 2021.

In addition to their work at established companies, Christian has experience as the Co-Founder of Fluid Synchrony LLC, a start-up focused on developing implantable micropump technology with multiple drug delivery applications. As the Founding CTO, they successfully led the research and development of the technology from bench-top to commercial prototype. Christian also provided technical leadership for product development, manufacturing, and quality assurance processes.

Christian has also worked as a Microtechnology Consultant, providing their expertise in the field on a consulting basis.

Christian Gutierrez has a strong educational background in the field of engineering and business. Christian completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Business Economics, and Management at Caltech from 2001 to 2005. Following that, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at Caltech from 2005 to 2006. Lastly, they obtained their PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Southern California, studying from 2006 to 2011.
