Frances Chu

Frances Chu has a diverse work experience in scientific operations and project management roles. Frances is currently working as an Associate Director of Scientific Operations at TwinStrand Biosciences since April 2022. In their previous role at the same company, they served as a Senior Scientific Operations Manager, overseeing a team and managing scientific project management and collaborative projects. Additionally, they worked as a Scientific Operations Manager at TwinStrand, where they handled scientific project management, interdepartmental communication, and implemented systems for increased organization and efficiency.

Prior to their time at TwinStrand, Frances worked at InBios International, Inc. as a Project Manager from June 2016 to September 2020. In this role, they led federally-funded projects focused on developing and pursuing FDA clearance for in vitro diagnostics for infectious diseases. Frances was responsible for project deliverables, documentation, task and schedule management, and stakeholder communication. Notably, they played a key role in obtaining FDA approval for Zika and SARS-CoV-2 diagnostics.

Frances also held research positions at the University of Washington. As a Research Scientist, they managed laboratory operations while conducting research on bacterial conversion of methane to biodiesel precursors. Frances acted as a project coordinator for a multi-institutional grant, handling reporting documentation, timelines, and communications with the granting agency. Furthermore, as a Postdoctoral Fellow, they studied mycobacteria and their interaction with the host immune system, obtaining two fellowships and contributing to successful NIH grant proposals.

Frances Chu obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology, General from Southwestern University, where they studied from 1998 to 2002. Frances then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biology/Biological Sciences, General from Harvard University, completing their studies from 2002 to 2007.

In addition to their formal education, Frances Chu has also obtained three certifications from Coursera Course Certificates. In April 2016, they completed the "Managing Project Risks and Changes" certification. Frances also obtained certifications in "Budgeting and Scheduling Projects" in March 2016 and "Initiating and Planning Projects" in January 2016.
