P. Alex Smith has a wealth of work experience in the medical field. Starting in 2009, they worked as a Device Design Engineer, Computer Lab Assistant, and Research Assistant in Nanotoxicology Lab at Texas A&M University. In 2012, Smith co-founded Scepter Medical Devices, LLC, where they worked as a Research & Development Co-Founder. In 2013, Smith became a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Texas A&M University. In 2014, Smith began working at the University of Houston as a PHD Candidate and PHD Student. That same year, Smith was also hired as an Equipment Manager, Research Engineer III, Research Engineer II, and Research Intern at the Texas Heart Institute. In 2019, Smith was hired as a Medical Device Biodesign Fellow at the Texas Medical Center, as well as a Principal Product Engineer Consultant and Senior Product Engineer Consultant at VenoStent, Inc. Most recently, in 2020, Smith became the Chief Technology Officer & Co-founder at TYBR Health.

Alex then attended Texas A&M University from 2012 to 2013, where they obtained a Master of Engineering in Biomedical/Medical Engineering. P. Alex then attended the University of Houston from 2014 to 2017, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering. In 2018, they obtained the certification "Experimentation for Improvement" from Coursera. P. Alex is currently attending Y Combinator.
