Derek Azar

Derek Azar is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in geography and statistical analysis, currently serving as a Senior Survey Statistician/Geographer at the U.S. Census Bureau since June 2014, where there is a focus on managing projects that enhance the capabilities of National Statistical Organizations. Prior positions at the U.S. Census Bureau include roles as a Geographer and Geospatial Analyst, contributing to training programs and technical assistance for international counterparts while pioneering methodologies for image classification and population distribution. Earlier experience includes working as a GIS Analyst at the National Geographic Society, conducting demographic research, and providing support for disaster mapping operations during Hurricane Katrina. Derek Azar holds both an M.A and a B.A in Geography from The George Washington University, with a specialization in International Development.
